Software engineer and CE Pro contributor Jay Basen has released an updated driver for integrating Crestron and SmartThings home automation systems. The code is available free of charge on github. While it might seem odd to meld high-end, pro-installed Crestron smart-home systems with Samsung's DIY hub, Basen points out the compelling benefits. Crestron Certified Drivers was a little difficult to understand (from my point of view), but once you do it one time and understand loading the driver (physically and in the program), it has been great. There was the online help file which took re-reading a few times to comprehend.
#238670 1st time trying to use CCD with a new Samsung (not here yet) on my daughters system i am trying to understand how to access the smart apps directly if possible i see youtube, netflix etc in the .dat file, but they are not exposed (since they are 'false'?) i see 2 mediaServiceProviders, TV Tuner & Smart TV from this i can assume that using 'Smart TV' i can get access to the smart hub and use the cursor commands to access the apps?? mark |
#238682 I am under the impression that ‘false’ indicates un-supported. I am looking for the same answer and if you find out how to do this thru the CCD modules or otherwise (RS-232 or direct tcp ip) will you please share? #238685 I don't know, maybe I'm crazy, but wouldn't it be nice if Crestron add a PDF to the CCD that described the functionality of that particular CCD? You know, like Extron does with their drivers. It gives you a full listing of the functions to expect and any wiring diagrams, special connection instructions, or port numbers that need to be set. Although, given Crestron's responsiveness to fixing any documentation issues I won't hold my breath. It is for these reasons that I don't use the CCD's. If I cant know exactly what to expect from a module I will write my own. |
